About the Work
This work develops across a broad, irregular face of petrified wood whose natural coloration already shifts through muted violet, brown, cream, blue-gray, and traces of red and gold. The symbol concentrates through the center of that geological field. Angular forms, circles, repeated points, branching black lines, and smaller mark-like structures intersect and overlap, creating a composition that feels organized without becoming symmetrical. Gold and pale metallic tones are joined by turquoise, blue, copper, violet, white, and the isolated red point, producing areas of luminosity against the subdued mineral surface.
The symbol has no assigned translation or fixed meaning. Its connected forms suggest relationships, sequences, and internal structure, yet no prescribed order determines how they should be read. The natural fractures and mineral transitions of the wood continue beneath and around the painted marks, making the geological surface inseparable from the composition. From the sides and back, the symbol disappears entirely and the object returns to its ancient material presence. The work exists between those two conditions, a contemporary system of marks held within a structure formed across deep geological time.
