I’m Dave Holt.
I create symbolic art on ancient petrified wood and stone.
Since late 1999, I’ve been developing an evolving symbolic system applied directly onto geological materials shaped by immense time, pressure, rupture, and transformation.
The work is not about decoration.
Each object is approached as a presence, a convergence between human mark, material history, and pressure contained into structure.
Most of these works were created during periods of sustained instability, environmental stress, collapse, and rebuilding. The art evolved through those conditions rather than outside of them.
The materials themselves carry deep geological time:
petrified wood, desert stone, banded formations, fractured surfaces, mineral structures, and objects formed under immense pressure across millions, sometimes billions of years.
The symbols are not planned narratives or fixed meanings.
They emerge through repetition, instinct, containment, and response to the material itself.
